Here's Gracie! She is a purebred Rhodesian Ridgeback. She came to live here in May '04 at the age of 8 months. I had just lost a beloved dog 2 weeks prior and had told myself I wouldn't add another for quite some time.
Then, as fate would have it (or at least that's what I think), a co-worker called me. We had just been through a terrible week of severe storms and tornadoes. Gracie was owned by a neighbor of my co-worker and had been left out, tied to a tree with no shelter. The tree was taken down by the storm, with Gracie attached! My co-worker refused to leave her there any longer and convinced the owner to give her up. A couple of hours later, Gracie was with me.
Although Gracie
will forever have a scar around her
neck from pulling on the choke collar she constantly wore, she has
settled in fine. Obviously, she is terrified of storms. She was under
weight back then, but now she has filled out nicely, almost too
nicely!. She's a stout dog and is quite the opportunist when it comes
to
any type of food! Despite her breed's reputation for
hunting lions, Gracie likes smaller game. She's the head gal when
it comes to mouse watching in the barn. She seldom manages to
catch one, but
she's always on the alert and can stare one down in a heartbeat.
She is full of expression and I love taking pictures of her.
