This is "Lucky". He was imported in utero with his
mom to Todd and Leslie Barnes' Lucky Star Stables.
At that time, his sire was thought to be The Lottery Horse.
However, with a little DNA testing after his birth, it was discovered
that another
silver tongued devil whooed the affections of his mother instead!
Unfortunately, we really don't know who that devil might have been.
Having a belief in fate, I feel like being with Lucky was written in
the stars. I remember clearly being at Equine Affair in Ohio when
my friend Barb heard fromTodd and Leslie that their imported mare had
just had a red and white colt. Her eyebrows lifted and she gave
me that eye, knowing that I love red and whites! I was thrilled,
but also felt there would be no way I could swing another Vanner
anytime soon.
Then, at the State Fair in Ohio that August, Todd and Leslie's son
Ellis kept flaunting a picture of Lucky to me......saying "He could be
yours". And wouldn't ya know it, I went to see him in September
and he was here on my SplendoredThings Farm by November!
Fate, an amazing thing......either that, or those
Barnes' are great at brainwashing! (I'll stick with the fate
scenario.)
I feel privileged with the confidence and generosity
of Todd and Leslie.
The Barnes' raised such a friendly
fellow and I can fully understand why it was so hard to let him
go. He has oodles of personality. Even with Bliss not being
so welcoming at first, he has managed to fit right in around
here.
Lucky's coloration really intrigues me. Although rich red at
birth, he's turning more into a strawberry roan. Very striking.
